Springdale police get a nice surprise

Springdale Police Chief Kevin Cornett was surprised with a $2,000 donation from the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Dream Makers, and Something Borrowed Wedding and Party Rentals during the July 12, ribbon-cutting at Spring-dale’s new Dollar General store

According to the police department, the donation will go toward purchasing in-car computers for its officers.

Cornett did not know he was being asked to come to the ribbon-cutting to get the-check. The donors made the contribution based on the need.

“We are always honored by the awesome generosity of our business partners,” was the message posted on the Springdale Police Department’s Facebook page.

Lanes along portions of I-26 in West Columbia were closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. last Wednesday and Thursday as crews performed overhead electric line work across the road.

To reduce the impact on traffic, the work was took place during overnight hours in coordination with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution in designated work zones.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety was on the scene July 17 at an overturned dump truck at the intersection of Frink Street and 12th Street. The accident was reported about 9:50 a.m. Roads were closed from 12th Street to Julius Felder until the truck was moved.
