Friday — April 21

Copeland (concert)

New Brookland Tavern (122 State St. in West Columbia) hosts Florida emo band Copeland as it celebrates the 20th anniversary of its “Beneath Medicine Tree” album. Gena Chambers (concert)

Join Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) and singer Gena Chambers invite you to an “’80s Soul Party.” Expect to hear hits and classics by Teena Marie, Chaka Khan, Mary J. Kinetic Derby Day

Head over to the Meeting Street Artisan Market (corner of State St. and Meeting St.) for an exciting event, Kinetic Derby Day: “The streets of West Columbia will be filled with art, soapbox racing, and an obstacle course with thousands of people gathering together for the third annual Kinetic Derby Day. The event spurs creative thinking, competition, and family fun as teams come together to build unusual vehicles and awe-inspiring art installations.” This event runs from 1 to 3 p.m. and is free to attend. Bark to the Park

Saluda Shoals Park (5605 Bush River Rd. in Columbia) and Pawmetto Lifeline host Bark To The Park,” a fundraiser to help homeless pets. Saluda Shoals Park is expecting more than 800 people to come out for half-mile to two-mile walks with their pets followed by an After-Pawty with craft beer and live music. Registration is $40, $25 for children ages 12 and under. This event begins at 10 a.m. Visit icrc.net for more information. 

Steel Paws Benefit

Steel Hands Brewing (2350 Foreman St. in Cayce) hosts its annual Steel Paws benefit event: “Steel Paws, a charitable mission launched by Steel Hands Brewing in April 2022, was inspired by a critical need in the community. The program is on mission to provide year-round support for canine initiatives through fundraising events and distribution of Steel Paws Wheat Ale, a benefit beer.” Enjoy a day of live music, special guest appearances, live canine demonstrations, and more. Proceeds raised will go towards critical protective gear and supplies for police K-9s where funding is not available. Pete Henry (concert)

Schoolboy Johnny (concert)

Join Savage Craft Ale Works (430 Center St. in West Columbia) for a performance by Schoolboy Johnny, a Bad Company tribute act. Record Store Day

Scratch N’ Spin Records (513 12th St. in West Columbia) hosts its annual Record Store Day event. The holiday, designed to celebrate independent brick-and-mortar record stores, brings hundreds of limited-edition vinyl releases to stores all over the country, and Scratch N’ Spin is celebrating with live music from local acts Candy Coffins, Bones Hamilton, and Colton Beasley. Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra (concert)

The Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra and the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Tech (7300 College St. in Irmo) present “Old World and New World.” This performance contrasts the works of the old masters, Mozart and Bach, with one of the most cherished and popular works by a new age classical composer, Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World." Brooks Herring (concert)

Yoga and a Picnic

The FARM 1780 (1127 Corley Mill Rd.) hosts Yoga and a Picnic. There will be a 45-minute yoga class taught by Caroline Whisennant followed by a picnic, which includes cheese and charcuterie, farm-fresh vegetables and fruit, roasted carrot hummus, and more. Prettier Than Matt (concert)

Styx (concert)

Iconic classic rock band Styx performs at the Township Auditorium (1703 Taylor St. in Columbia) on April 21 as part of its 2023 world tour.
