Stutman Hollow Haunted Attraction
Among the many local places to look for scares in October is the Stutman Hollow Haunted Trail (213 Stutman Rd. in Leesville). “Nestled in the dark woods of Stutman Hollow is a fear of the unknown. A family moved out to Stutman Road where their son had always wanted to do a haunted trail. Deceased Farm
If you’re ready for Halloween thrills, then head to Clinton Sease Farm (382 Olde Farm Rd.) for the Deceased Farm haunted attraction. Take a self-guided spooky tour of 6 terrifying buildings, three outdoor zones and creepy corn fields. This event is for adults and for children over 12. Hall of Horrors
In the mood for a bit of pre-Halloween fright? Head over to 1153 Walter Price Rd. in Cayce for the Hall of Horrors. Have some fun chills and scares from some of the best fright-night performers around, and contribute to a good cause as all proceeds from the Hall of Horrors go to local charities, notably the SC Jaycee Camp Hope, a camp experience designed for children and adults with learning disabilities and special needs. Oktoberfest 2023
Pine Press (120/142 Ellis Ave.) hosts its annual Oktoberfest open house, with the expected German food and beer along with a silent auction (proceeds raised benefit the Midlands Special Needs Joy Day Program), bounce houses, face painting and more. The Sensational Epics (concert)
The fall session of the Greater Cayce West Columbia Chamber’s Rhythm on the River series continues this week with a headline performance from local beach music mainstay The Sensational Epics and a community performance from the Columbia Children’s Theatre. Brandy and the Butcher (concert)

Boo at the Zoo
If you’re ready to celebrate Halloween a bit early, then the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden (500 Wildlife Pkwy.) has got you and the kids covered with the return of the annual Boo at the Zoo event. Take the family trick-or-treating through the zoo, enjoy a magic act courtesy of Ray’s Moonlight Magic, take a ride on the Haunted Carousel or hop aboard the spooky Spots & Stripes Railroad. Foodees Food and Culture Festival Spooktacular
Gilbert Community Park (Rikard Circle behind Gilbert United Methodist Church) and Foodees, an organization that espouses to connect the world with foods through events and festivals, present the Halloween-themed Food and Culture Festival Spooktacular. The first day of the event features 30 food trucks on site, more than 70 arts and crafts vendors, trick or treating for the kids, and much more. The Spooktacular Festival runs from 4 to 10 p.m. and is free to attend. The event continues Saturday (11 a.m.-10 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m.-7 p.m.). Famously Hot SC Pride returns to Columbia on Oct. 20 and 21 in downtown Columbia from Main St. to Laurel St. to Lady St. On Oct 20, see the Get Lit Night Parade at 7 p.m. and then come back on Saturday for a day-long celebration including performances from Daya Carter, Jujubee and Jade Jolie, and find out who this year’s Mx.
