Subdivisions clog roads

Posted

I am not an attorney. I have no idea of the legal ramifications of the county council’s building moratorium ordinance.

I do know, as a long-term resident of Lexington County living in Spence’s Point, the volume and crush of traffic in the Town of Lexington, especially off Pilgrim Church Road, Old Cherokee and Old Chapin has increased 10 fold in 7 years.

Now they are building the new Lake Murray Middle School on Old Cherokee with no plans to widen the road at the school.

A traffic nightmare is coming. The line at 4 pm the other day from North Lake Drive to Old Cherokee/Old Chapin was over a mile long bumper to bumper, sitting through the traffic light 4 and 5 times.

What rights do long-time residents have to protect their quality of life from the surge of subdivision after subdivision and a quagmire of traffic? I say fix the roads and build all the homes you want.

Absent the roads being fixed, we are doomed to sit in our cars and 10 minute trips become 30 minute trips.
