Lexington man to be inducted into South Carolina Entertainment and Music Hall of Fame on April 17

Icehouse Amphitheater event to also showcase 20 Ride, a Zac Brown tribute band

A longtime Lexington resident from Sumter will be inducted into South Carolina Entertainment and Music Hall of Fame during a ceremony on April 17 at Lexington’s Icehouse Amphitheater.

The event will honor Doug Baker’s 40 years of work in the music industry as well as his contributions to live entertainment in South Carolina.

A native of Sumter, Baker grew up in the city where his father owned Baker Appliance on Washington Street for many years. Throughout his career, he booked musical artists across the country. Some of the shows he values most, he said, are the ones he has helped bring to his community.

In 2016, Baker booked 20 Ride for the amphitheater's inaugural event, in partnership with the Lexington Chamber. Now, that very band will perform for this celebration.

Baker also played a key role in the planning and development of the Icehouse Amphitheater and has booked nearly 100 shows at the venue since it opened. His experience and guidance produced the theater’s “Thursday Alive” concert series and introduced the very first “Tribute Act,” which has become very popular at the venue.

He has run Eastcoast Entertainment at 100 Harmon St. in Lexington for 29 years.

Baker’s celebration will begin with a VIP drop-in reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Icehouse Amphitheater, located at 107 W. Main St. in Lexington. The band, 20 Ride, will perform from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The Hall of Fame introduction ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with special guest Rob Crosby making an appearance.
