Lexington 1’s superintendent is a candidate to head a NC technical college.
Dr. Greg Little is 1 of 3 finalists for president of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
Dr. Little said the school’s location would put him closer to his ailing father.
The A-B Tech board is seeking a new president to succeed Dr. Dennis King, who retired January 31.
The other 2 finalists are Dr. John Gossett, president of McDowell Technical Community College in Marion, NC, and Dr. Beth Pitonzo, senior vice president at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, NC.
Board Chair John Parham Jr. said more than 70 applications were received.
“My family and I love living in Lexington and being a part of the Lexington District 1 family,” Dr. Little said.
“When this opportunity presented itself, however, I felt that I just could not pass it up. Not only is it a wonderful career opportunity, but it also has a unique personal benefit.
“My father is in poor health and continues to decline. This exciting opportunity to serve as president of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College would put me less than 2 hours from my parents and enable me to be of more help to them.”
