Superman to grace local products

A Harbison-based sports gear company has signed a game-changing deal.

Phenom Elite will now feature DC super heroes on their products in a licensing agreement with Warner Brothers.

These include Superman, Batman and the Flash along with infamous villains like the Joker.

Chief Operating Officer Chandler Engel said he and CEO Nathan Dorton could hardly believe it when they found out the entertainment company was interested.

Phenom Elite’s products like cleats, gloves and mouth guards will showcase super heroes from the Justice League in addition to characters from Space Jam, Friday the 13th and It, among others. The licensing deal will continue through 2022.

District 5 finances in new hands

Lexington-Richland School District 5 has named a new director of finance for the district.

Connie Frick was approved by the Board of Trustees on Nov. 16 to serve in the role.

Frick has served as both a senior accountant and an accountant for the district since 2009 and is a CPA. She replaces Bruce Shealy, who is retiring in December.

Chapin Goodwill breaks ground

A new Goodwill thrift store is coming to Chapin.

A groundbreaking celebration was held Nov. 20 at the new location at 520 Columbia Avenue in Chapin.

The store is scheduled to open in 2021 and will include a retail store, donation center and Goodwill Job Connection.

Goodwill Job Connections provide free assistance to help job seekers connect with potential employers and find permanent employment.

For cookie monsters

Lexington’s new gourmet cookie store will open Thursday, Dec. 3.

Crumbl Cookies is in the Target shopping center at 5119 Sunset Blvd.

Owners Tyler and Erin Hinckley said they will offer 6 cookie flavors with chocolate chip and chilled sugar. The other 4 will rotate each week with such flavors as chilled pumpkin pie, peach cobbler and salted caramel cheesecake.

They will offer 6 flavors of ‘Crumbl cream’ specialty ice cream, too.

They will hold “free chocolate chip cookie day” and 20% off a box of 4 cookies Friday, Dec. 4 only.

They are hiring bakers. Those interested can email lexington@crumbl.com .

From councilwoman to president

Lexington County Councilmember Kathy Maness is the new president of the National League of Cities.

NLC is an advocacy organization for all cities, towns and villages in the United States.

Councilmember Maness is the first NLC President from the state of South Carolina and will serve a 1-year term as President.

Maness has served on Lexington’s Town Council since 2004 and has been an active member of the NLC since then.

Who’s closed

Nooch and Lalo, a restaurant at the Flight Deck Shopping Center in Lexington, has permanently closed.

On social media the owners cited “devastating family issues” as a factor.

Co-owners and partners Jose “Lalo” Parra and Nicholas “Nooch” Kole will be moving to Mexico, according to their announcement.

Law firms merge in West Cola

D’Alberto & Graham and Grimsley Law Firm have merged their practices to form the firm of D’Alberto, Graham & Grimsley.

The firm is located at 508 Meeting St. in West Columbia.

Their team of attorneys and staff serves business clients as outside general counsel in the areas of business law, commercial real estate, trusts & estates, creditor rights, land use & zoning and environmental law.
