Tartan Day South coming in April

AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

There’s a lot planned in the area during April.

It’s time to get out your kilt because next month, the 9th annual Tartan Day South Celtic Festival will be held April 4-7. The event is at the Historic Columbia Speedway in Cayce and will include music entertainment from Tuatha Dea, Syr, and Brynmor.

It’s time to get your yard ready for Spring in Cayce. The Spring Plant Exchange is sponsored by the Cayce Beautification Board. The board asks you to make plans to come to the Cayce Spring Plant Exchange on April 13. It’s at Cayce City Hall, 1800 12th Street Extension. The plant exchange is from 9 am until 10 pm. Bring your extra plants and exchange them for something you really want. The exhange will go on until all plants have a new home. You do not have to bring a plant to participate.

A Master Gardener will be on hand to answer any questions.  Children and family-friendly pets are welcome. It’s a rain or shine event.

Bring seeds; bulbs; clippings or cuttings; potted house plants, shrubs; trees; or any plant that can be re-potted.  Contact Katinia Taylor – City of Cayce – with questions at: 803-550-9520.

Some City of West Columbia employees have been rewarded for their service. Public Works Director Jamie Hook recognized Joe Boyd, William Rowe, Lucian “Junior” Martin, and Sam Williams for their recent promotions in the Sanitation and Parks Department at the March city council meeting.

West Columbia  Police Chief Dennis Tyndall recognized Capt. Doug Hook, Sgt. Andrew Jackson, and Cpl. Calvin Brown for their recent promotions at the March city council meeting.
