A most appealing feature of golf is that every hole is different than the previous 1.

So each hole offers its own brand a new adventure. Seldom are 2 holes alike and this is truly unique.

Golf architecture is fascinating. There are few architects, in my estimation, who find the delicate balance between fun and challenge while complimenting the native or natural terrain.

The Bryan Bros got invited to the golf clubs of Mississippi for a match in their newest YouTube. Challenge series.

A couple of clubs with contrasting design styles, Old Waverly and Mossy Oak Golf clubs, are across the street from one another.

Old Waverly is a Jerry Pate-Bob Cupp design and it in my words “traditional”. Mossy Oak has the feel and even the look of a seaside ocean links, the type of course that would be found close to the ocean in Scotland, England or Ireland.

Obviously, there is no sea but what’s so outstanding about the two courses is every hole is a lot of fun to play.

There are 36 completely different holes, and seldom if ever, have I seen 2 courses so close together, but completely different.

Another special feature is our host was George W. Bryan, and the Bryan Family of West Point, Miss. Kindness and hospitality saturated the atmosphere and it was truly special.

The Mississippi Bryans set a brand new standard for me to strive for.

By match time, there were more Bryans on a golf property than I have ever witnessed including 5 Georges.

George Bryan IV took Cohen Trolio as his partner. This young man quite possibly is the country’s top junior golfer. He is a rising senior in high school.

They would play Wesley, who teamed with Wells Williams, another one of the country’s top juniors, and George W Bryan’s grandson. Wells is just finishing his sophomore year in high school.

These two Mississippi juniors are incredible players. They made a lot of birdies making for much entertainment.

Find the Bryan Bros YouTube channel and look for the Mississippi match toward the end of June.

As you finalize your summer golf vacation calendar, here are some other ideas:

The Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission Family Golf’s 1st season will resume the week of July 1st.

The program was in week 3 of 10 when played was suspended due to the pandemic.

Parents participate with their children ages 4-9, not excluding 10-13.

For more information, contact B.J. Belville at (803) 359-4048 extension 240.

The Irmo-Chapin Recreation Center will hold 2 youth Golf camps July 20-22 and July 27-29.

For more information, call (803) 345-6181 or (803) 772-3336.

The S.C. Junior Golf Association Hootie Summer Series registration is underway.

Visit SCJGA.org to register for either the Tri-County chapter or the Columbia chapter series.

The RBC Heritage will be played the 3rd week of June. At this point, it appears TV will be the only option.

Due to current conditions, only players and caddies will be allowed on the property.
