Senior Living

God often acts in mysterious and life-saving ways.

A group of our Senior Adults took a trip to the BMW plant in Greer 2 weeks ago.

The tour is excellent.

You would be amazed by the size of the plant and the incredible assembly-line robotics that go into making some of the finest automobiles on the planet.

More incredible was witnessing God’s hand of protection over 14 people in a church bus.

When we left at 7 am, we began with prayer asking for God’s protection and safety for the day. I was driving and mistakenly did not follow the written directions that would have taken us there via I-85. Instead I followed my Garmin the back way through Woodruff.

About 10 miles from our destination, we noticed a burning rubber smell. It must have come from a truck in front of us. Everything in our bus seemed normal.

At the BMW plant visitor center door, everyone started the tour while I waited in the lobby and worked on my laptop.

When I returned to the bus, there was no power steering or power brakes. I crawled under the bus and saw the serpentine belt hanging there, broken.

While the group was on the 2-hour tour, I arranged for the bus to be towed to Greer.

Our hero, Mark Inabinett from First Baptist Church of West Columbia, drove up to rescue us with their church bus.

Why did that belt break only after we had reached our destination?

What would have happened if that belt broke on I-85 in heavy traffic, leaving us with no power steering or power brakes?

I am so thankful you are reading this article and not a headline about a church bus in a crash.

God heard and answered our prayer that morning and kept us safe. Thank you, Father!

Next week: The love of God
