There’s still time to see meteor shower

Iwatched the Perseids Meteor Shower this weekend and tried to count the meteors.  I saw some, but what I observed was the vastness of our universe in the night sky. I saw how big and powerful the creator of the universe is.  I marveled at how beautiful the night sky was when free from the pollution of town lights.  The stars were beautiful and bright!

The meteor shower will peak September 9-17. Experts suggest watching the night sky after 11 p.m.

The Chapin Police Department is also shining brightly in the town. From giving out popsicles at the park and keeping Chap-in safe, they do their jobs well!   Sergeant Bill Finch was nominated for the Gregory Alia Award given by Serve and Connect at the Knight of Honor dinner.   The Chapin Police also have mentored young people in Police Explorer Post 170. At a recent competition against other Explorer Posts, it won awards in firearms, courtroom testimony, and domestic violence. Congratulations Chip, Spencer, Devin, Trevor and Gavin for your hard work.

Do you like books? I will be helping the Friends of the Chapin Library prepare for the annual Labor Day Book sale at the Chapin Town Hall September 3, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.  More volunteers are needed to help unload and organize the many books to be sold.  Call 803-345-5470 to volunteer or for information.

Union United Methodist Church hosts Martha’s Market Sept. 8, 9 a.m.-noon. Go and find a good deal and perhaps donate some unwanted items from your home.

The   Chapin Labor Day festivities have become a landmark festival in the Midlands and will be September 1-3  for family fun and a farmer’s market to buy some vegetables, organic grass-fed beef, eggs, crafts and more.
