Time races on during summer

Around ChApin & irmo

Idon’t know about you, but time seems to have taken a fast quantum leap in “fast forward” mode. If you blinked, you find yourself in the middle of June racing quickly into July. Since I didn’t plant a garden this year, I need to make a visit to the Chapin Farmers Market the first Saturday in July, get fresh vegetables, grass-fed beef, and more. Irmo also has a Farmer’s Market Saturday, 9 am-noon.

Produce co-ops are an excellent way to get those homegrown fruits and veggies. A workshop on how to start a produce co-op will be June 22, 9:30–10:30 am at the Athlete’s Arena in Irmo. Call 803-750-9036 for more information.

The Comet’s Express Route connects Newberry, Little Mountain, Chapin, Ballentine, Harbison, and downtown Columbia. An informational meeting will be held June 24, 6:30 pm, at the Chapin Library. Call 803-255-7100 for more information

Our police officers are a real asset to our society, and when one is seriously injured, it is a tragedy that affects their family and our community. Deputy Hall, a 14-year law enforcement veteran, was seriously injured in a car crash June 1 and is in stable condition. A recovery fund has been set up by Serve and Connect, for his wife and 4 children to support Deputy Hall during this long recovery process. Serve & Connect is a nonprofit organization to help officers and their families. To donate to help the Hall family, visit www.serviceandconnect.charity.org .

Does your child like dinosaurs? The Riverbanks Zoo has the dinosaur exhibit for you! Travel back in time to the Pangea continent and see those elusive extinct creatures on display at the zoo. You can see lions, tigers, bears and a T Rex! Call 803-779-8717 for more information.

Congratulations to Logan Lorick, who is the 2019 Lexington County Girls Softball Homerun Champion. Coach Samford said she had an outstanding year.

Come celebrate Independence Day with a patriotic concert by the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra. Bring a picnic blanket or chair to Saluda Shoals July 3, 7–9 pm. There will be food and beverages available for purchase.

The Chapin cheerleaders are calling for all superheroes for the 2019 Little Girls Cheer Clinic June 24,-27. 9–12 pm. Visit www.hometeamsonline.com for information.
