Time to start holiday recovery

The year 2018 is history and 2019 is here! It is the time to reflect on the year past and look forward to what the New Year will bring, and most importantly, recover from the Christmas holidays.

What are your New Year resolutions? I have to laugh at mine two years ago.  I was going to try to keep my house as clean as it was for the holidays. That resolution was dismantled bit by bit as life went back to “normal.”  My 2019 New Years resolution is to not have one this year.

Lose those extra holiday pounds and get back in shape by joining the Irmo-Chapin recreation centers with their walking trails and classes for all ages.

Christmas is expensive and holiday debt can be a heavy burden to carry into the new year. Riverland Hills Baptist Church is starting Financial Peace University on January 27. It will be held Sundays from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Call 803-772-3227 for more information.

The New Year also brings the opportunity to take classes at the Shepherd’s Center in Irmo. The winter classes start January 15. They meet at Ashland United Methodist Church, 2600 Ashland Road, Columbia. For information, visit shepherdscenterofstandrews.org  or call 803-731-9394

January is the perfect month for ice-skating. Holiday ICE is at Columbiana Center parking lot until January 21. The times for fun on the ice are Sunday 1-9 pm, Monday-Friday 4-9 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm.  For info, call 803-732-6255.

You will need a coat, hat, a scarf and your curiosity for Professor Larry Metcalf’s program at the Chapin Library on January

10.  Planets, stars, asteroids, and astronomy will be the focus of this starry night program starting at 5:30 pm.
