The Town of Lexington plans to resurface multiple roads that are in poor condition, as well as put future programming in place to maintain roads before they are in dire need of resurfacing.
During the March 3 town council meeting, council unanimously decided to move forward on repaving some roads in over 10 neighborhoods.
To be funded out of a combination of the general fund balance and general obligation debt, these are the neighborhoods on the list Councilman Gavin Smith read during the meeting:
Not every road in these neighborhoods will be resurfaced this year. Only roads classified as a “D” or an “F” in a grading system based on their condition will be resurfaced in this initial phase.
Residents in these neighborhoods will be notified if their roads will be resurfaced. This phase of resurfacing may be completed this summer.
“We did similar road resurfacing projects in 2003, 2004, 2006 totaling a big amount then another project in 2013 that was $1.25 million. Now the time has come to do this maintenance again,” Mayor Hazel Livingston said during the meeting. “The town maintains 33 miles of roadway within our municipal boundaries and does maintain projects when warranted if needed ahead of time. … We’re going to try to get into a plan where … we don’t get to Fs. Ds are fixed ahead of time.”
