AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

The 4th annual Tribute for Trees is Sept.18, 5:30-7:30 p.m., in the New Brook-land Room of the West Columbia City Hall, 1200 N. 12th St.

A $200 donation includes a tree for West Columbia and admittance into the Tribute for Trees Gala. The evening features hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and entertainment by Bob Michalski, the Sax Man, with emcee Joe Pinner.

Last year, the West Columbia Beautification Foundation raised $25,550 at tribute. Sprouse-Browne said the events, since the first one, have met the fundraising goal, or exceeded it.

Springdale Mayor Michael Bishop said there is a nuisance in his town.

“One of the biggest complaints I receive is how to get “The Extra” newspapers from being thrown into yards,” said Bishop in a recent email message to Springdale residents. “Long story short, the only way to stop it is to call Customer Service at The State newspaper at 1-800-888-3566 and ask to not receive the product.”

There are other options, to, said Bishop.

“If you choose not to call, and yet don’t want this paper, please find the energy it takes to pick it up and throw it away in a timely manner, Bishop said. “Please don’t be that neighbor that walks past it and leaves it on the ground while walking inside..”

It’s one of the biggest nights of the year for the West Columbia Beautification Foundation.  Mark your calendars. The city of West Columbia’s Fall Back Fest is November 2 from 6 tol 9  p.m., at the corner of State and Meeting streets. The Fest features live mural art and food and beverages. Rian Adkinson will present live music.
