The Tri-District Arts Consortium summer program commissioned sculptor Bob Doster to create an art sculpture celebrating 40 years of the program.
Founded in 1985, TriDAC provides elite arts training for gifted students in grades 5-8 from Lexington School District One, Lexington-Richland School District Five and Richland School District 2. The sculpture was presented to School District Five's Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts Roger Simpson and Superintendent Akil E. Ross Sr. on Monday, Aug. 17 by TriDAC Director Donna Wilson.
Admission to TriDAC requires teacher or parent nomination, a formal application and a competitive audition in one of seven areas: creative writing, dance, chorus, drama, visual art, band or orchestra.
Selected students attend an intensive three-week summer camp led by educators, culminating in public showcases where they share their work with the community. Nominations for the program will begin being accepted starting in October.
