Trying times for family reunions

Posted

Time for family reunions has been on the skids. Summer and fall reunions have had tough choices to make this year.

“Do we meet, do we postpone, or cancel until next year”. Wait too late and we are into Thanksgiving, then Christmas. Too many decisions for planning committees.

Some of the reunions I attend are meeting, but not eating.

Now I ask you what is a reunion without tables sagging with family favorite dishes? And, how can you catch up on all the famil news from 6 feet?

I must admit I reluctantly stayed home from the Kleckley reunion this year. But thanks to Gene Jeffries who, along with his wife, sent out a letter about Kleckley histor I will have something to report to you.

It won’t be today. My staying home this year turned into a misadventure that could have been a whole lot worse.

About mid-afternoon I heard a loud knock on my front door. Rather strange for a Sunday afternoon when most people would be napping. I didn’t see anyone through the window when I approached the door. But upon opening the inner door young man stood at the bottom of the steps.

He didn’t say a thing. Then I asked him “Who are you? What do you want’? He still refused to answer, and I asked again.

After a long pause he asked if he could bow hunt on my property.

I said, “Absolutely not, getting a little peeved, “I think you ought to leave.” After another few minutes hesitation he turned and left in his green truck. It had no tag.

Thinking I had just been blessed, I called 911 to report the incident.

Thankful this was over, I returned to my den. More was to come, but not for me.

Later this week, I saw a photo of a pickup truck on Facebook. It looked similar to the truck that had been in my drive earlier.

A neighbor had posted the photo asking for information. A moped and a few other items were stolen from his garage.

The photo was snapped from his security camera on the day of the robbery. The truck is green and is sporting a stolen tag.

If you know anything about it please call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at 803-785-8230.
