Lexington Restaurant Heads East

Griffin Chophouse, the popular steakhouse and bar on East Main Street in Lexington, has announced plans to open a location along one of Columbia’s quintessential shopping and dining thoroughfares.

The restaurant announced a second location to open on Devine Street in the former Dark Horse Tattoo building at 4418 Devine St. on Oct. 11. Extensive renovations will be made to the property, per Soda City Biz Wire, including a new storefront, large outdoor dining area and “ample” onsite parking.

Per the Biz Wire article, Chef Henry Griffin said, “I’m thrilled to bring the chophouse experience to the Devine Street-Cross Hill area, not far from where I grew up, with signature items such as Certified Angus Beef (CAB) dry-aged steaks, a wide array of BBQ, ribs, seafood, and salads, as well as our restaurant’s popular brisket candy.”

The article notes that demolition and construction are already underway, with the new location slated to open in April 2022.

Cayce Brewery Heads North

Another successful Lexington County business is looking to the Tar Heel State for its second location.

On Oct. 15, Cayce’s Steel Hands Brewing announced plans to open a brewery in Greensboro, North Carolina.

“We are beyond excited to announce and break ground on a new Steel Hands Brewing,” the business posted to its Facebook. “Thank to @cityofgreensboro for their amazing support and all those involved in this expansion project. We can’t wait to start brewing and distributing in NC!”

Per The Post and Courier, Steel Hands will make a $4 million investment in the 28,000-square foot site near the Greensboro Coliseum, which will feature a taproom with room for 190 people and a brewhouse. It will, concurrent with the new location, begin distribution in North Carolina.

Steel Hands opened with the largest brewing capacity of any Midlands brewery in 2018, though it is set to be unseated in late 2022 by Peak Drift Brewing; that brewery, which will open on North Main Street in Columbia, is planned to be the largest in the state.

The Cayce brewery has become a fixture on local grocery store shelves, where you can frequently find six-packs of the Coffee Lager and its new Juicy Hazy IPA.
