THURSDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK

Abbeville, Dillon and Hartsville are among the state’s traditional powers in high school football. The trio has combined for 21 S.C. High School League titles. Abbeville and Dillon are among 5 schools that have won 4 consecutive championships. The Panthers are also seeking to become the 1st school to win 5 titles in a row. This Friday, Chronicle Country teams will play host to all 3 teams in the 3rd round. Abbeville (12-0) will face Gray Collegiate Academy (10-2) at Newberry College. The Panthers own the Palmetto State’s longest winning streak at 34 games. The War Eagles are seeking their 1st trip to the Upper State final which they would host. Over at Knox Abbott Drive in Cayce, Brookland-Cayce (8-3) will play host to Hartsville (9-3). It’s a rematch of last year’s Class 4A 2nd round matchup won by the Red Foxes 68-35 in Kellytown. A victory by B-C could potentially set up an All-Chronicle Country Lexington District 2 Lower State final at Fort Knox. This would depend on if Airport can also upend defending Class 4A champion Myrtle Beach (11-0) on the road. The Eagles (10-3) are making their 1st 3rd round appearance since 1999. Meanwhile, the status of South Carolina quarterback commit Luke Doty (hand) for the Seahawks was unknown at presstime. Head down Interstate 20 to Leonard Price Field and it’s a 3rd round Class 3A matchup between Dillon (10-1) and Gilbert (11-1). The 2 teams met at the same place and same round 2 years ago with the Wildcats winning 34-7. The Indians can set a school record for victories and play host to their 1st ever Lower State final next week. Meanwhile, Chronicle Country’s reigning football dynasty Dutch Fork will play its 3rd round Class 5A matchup on the road against a familiar foe. The Silver Foxes (11-tend streaks of 37 straight without a loss, 36 consecutive victories over Palmetto State teams, 22 road wins in a row and 17 straight playoff victories.
