Update your phone (yes, again)

Have you received notice about updating your iPhone or iPad?

You should have been told to install an emergency software update.

The update will fix a dangerous vulnerability. If you haven’t, you should check manually to see if an update is available.

The update will fix a frightening spyware called Pegasus which can infect your phone without your knowledge.

The spyware is a “zero-click remote exploit.” That means it doesn’t require you to do anything to infect your device remotely.

What’s worse is it can do anything you can do with your device. That includes turning on your camera and microphone. It also includes recording your messages, even those sent via encrypted messaging apps.

You can update your device by:

• Connect your device to wi-fi and a power source.

• Open the Settings app, tap General, then tap Software Update.

• On the Software Updates screen, you may see multiple updates available. Choose the one you want to install.

If you just want to install the recent security issue without upgrading your operating system, choose the top update.

If you want to upgrade to iOS 15 tap the Upgrade to iOS 15’ option.

• Choose the update you want and tap Download and Install or Install Now.

If your device needs more space you may get a message asking permission to remove apps to update. If you tap Continue, any apps removed will reinstall automatically after the update.
