Veterans receive flags from Ruritan

It has been a tradition of the Pelion Ruritan Club to present the flags that are taken down each year to a member of the club who is a veteran.

The flag taken down at the 2019 ceremony was presented at the last meeting to Sam Jackson, who is a Vietnam veteran. Previous recipients of the flag are: 2018 flag– Steve Neese; 2017 flag – Tim Treaster; 2016 flag – Frank Stover Jr.; and the original 2015 flag is mounted on the wall where our club meets.

Tim Treaster made the flag box for the 2015 flag from the original paddles used to stir peanuts for the annual peanut party quite an original idea and perfect flag box!

Thank you to all veterans who have served our country to keep our flag flying high.

New signs have been erected at the entrance to the Ruritan Veterans Memorial reminding folks not to carry food or drinks inside the memorial. We also ask that everyone respect this site by not riding bikes, skateboards, scooters, or rollerblades at the memorial.
