The 2026 edition of the Capital City Cup is in the books.
Sixteen teams traveled to Chapin, River Bluff and Gray Collegiate to participate in the six-day event. They were split into two divisions and then two groups within those divisions, playing a round-robin schedule.
On Sunday, the teams with the best record in each group went head-to-head in the gold and silver division championships.
This year’s final round came down to Fort Dorchester and Gray Collegiate in the silver game and Wando and Legion Collegiate in the gold game.
Wando and Fort Dorchester each forced a shutout to win their division championship.
Fort Dorchester finished undefeated after beating South Aiken, Woodmont and Swansea before facing Gray. Wando went (2-1) before the final, losing to Chapin but beating Nation Ford and Blythewood. Since the Warriors scored more points, they went to the final over their fellow (2-1) teams.
Aside from Gray Collegiate, Chapin and River Bluff also participated in the tournament while also serving as host sites. The final was held at Chapin this year after being at River Bluff and Gray the previous two seasons.
Swansea was the fourth Lexington County team to participate in the competition. The Tigers were one of the smaller schools in the tournament as a 3A team playing against 4 and 5A schools.
In all, Lexington’s local teams finished the competition (6-7). Gray Collegiate was (2-2), Chapin was (2-1), River Bluff was (2-1) and Swansea was (0-3).
Other participating schools included: Christ Church, A.C. Flora, Belton-Honea Path, Westside, Blythewood, Nation Ford, South Aiken and Georgia’s Westminster.
With the prestigious preseason tournament all wrapped up, teams will return home this week for the first few games of the regular season.
Teams all over Lexington County will be on the field this week, playing games and looking to improve in the early portion of the season.
Region play is just around the corner, beginning in the middle of March. Everyone will want to be in top form for that.
