We cannot only imagine

Posted

Last week I received my Medicare membership card in the mail.

I feel amazed but grateful that my life has touched 8 decades from the 1950s to the 2020s.

With all that is going on in the world, I know that I have lived a sheltered life.

I have a very hard time putting myself in the places where we have seen so much human suffering.

Because of technology, we are all witnesses to many horrific events around the world.

But we view these scenes from the comfort of our den recliners.

There have been and will be many more natural and man-made disasters.

But just focus on Afghanistan and its fall to the Taliban a few weeks ago.

I can only imagine what it was like to run alongside a massive military jet with hundreds of people on an airport runway in Kabul.

I can only imagine trying to cling to the wheel well of a C-17 when the craft left the ground at 200 miles per hour.

I can only imagine the fear and desperation of women who have held professional jobs in Afghanistan.

I can only imagine facing death or torture just for being a Christian, an American, or a proponent of a free democracy in an Islamic state.

And then I realize that no, I cannot even imagine these things happening to me.

Yet, if we are decent, compassionate people we cannot turn a blind eye to these happenings.

So, don’t just sit there trying to imagine the unimaginable.

There is more that we can do.

We cannot and must not only imagine and wonder about human tragedy.

First of all, pray for the people you see and hear about in Afghanistan.

Pray for our military.

Pray to our Father in Heaven for refugees to be able to start new lives.

Donate to relief organizations that you trust. I would suggest WorldHelp.net or Help the Persecuted at HTP.org.

Next Week: 911 before senior adulthood
