Feeling the impact of soaring temperatures on your ever-increasing electric bill?
You’re not alone.
An online WalletHub study revealed US energy costs between 5% and 22% of families’ total incomes. The study included monthly electric, natural gas, motor fuel and home heating oil costs.
Combine our 100+ degree days with SCE&G’s seemingly endless rate hikes and you pay an average electric bill of $176 a month.
WalletHub says that’s the highest in the country.
Factoring in average monthly natural gas cost - $16 - and motor fuel cost - $121 - that leaves South Carolinians paying an average of $313 monthly for energy.
SC ranks 16th overall most expensive for energy, according to the study.
On the bright side, SC ranked lowest on gas prices across the country. District of Columbia had the lowest monthly motor fuel cost at only $72 a month on average.
Wyoming is No. 1 for highest total energy cost with $372 a month.
