This week, we pause to remember 8/11 and the horrible tragedy of 17 years ago. We remember the victims, their families and first responders who continue to suffer from diseases related to their service and sacrifice. Our 9/11 Memorial on Lexington’s Main Street stands a reminder of this day.

Anderson Chambers, manager of Travinia Italian Kitchen, hosted a fundraiser last week for JDRF, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for juvenile diabetes.

A JDRF One Walk is being held Nov. 10, 8 a.m., at Spirit Communications Park. It is a three-mile walk. Call Elizabeth McCrary at 803-782-1477 to sign up.

Carolina football is in full gear, but our Gamecocks did not fare well against Georgia. But the Clemson Tigers won over Texas A&M.

There are many events coming up.

The Men of Distinction are scheduled to perform tonight, Sept. 13, at the Icehouse Amphitheater.

Art in the Garden, hosted by Wally and Delores Steinhauser of Wingard’s Market, will benefit Mission Lexington tonight, Sept.

13. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. for art, food, live music and a good time.

Lexington United Methodist Church, 309 E. Main St., Lexington, invites you to its Holiday Market Oct. 11, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be vendors selling a variety of goods, plus a bake sale and lots of food. BBQ chicken and fixings, eat-in or take-out, will be $10 a plate.

Don’t forget to enroll in Adventures in Learning Fall 2018 at The Shepherd’s Center. Classes being Sept. 27. You will learn news skills and make new friends. These are one-hour programs with lunch. Call 803-359-6838 Ext. 110, or visit www.sclex.org.

Beware, there could be some cancellations this week as we wait to see what Hurricane Florence will do.
