We’re celebrating St. Patrick

It’s gong to be a fun weekend – the kickoff to St. Patrick’s Day on March 17.

At 2 pm Saturday, the Lexington Shamrock Parade will head down Main St. to O’Hara’s Public House with The Lake 93 FM’s Brent Johnson as emcee. Joe Pinner will be honored as emeritus emcee. Parade Grand Marshal is Jonathan Rush of WCOS radio.

Irish festivities with food and Prettier Than Matt Band will follow at O’Hara’s and a free “shamrockin” concert by SYR Celtic Folk Rock will be at Icehouse Amphitheater.

Festivities continue on the actual St. Patrick’s Day, Wednesday, March 17. A Tokyo Joe concert ia 7-10 pm behind O’Hara’s with tents, stage and Irish food classics.

ANNE BULL asks if you have your green outfit ready? It’s the only day of the year that we’re all a little Irish.

An Irish blessing:

May the Irish hills caress you.

May her lakes and rivers bless you.

May the luck of the Irish enfold you.

May Saint Patrick’s blessings behold you.

SHOULD WE continue wearing face coverings as we passed the 1st year covid-19 anniversary and cases have declined?

We have 3 vaccines available and many shots have been given. Phase 1B began Monday, making miracle drugs more accessible. Restrictions for safety precautions have been modified or lifted.

Health experts suggest we continue to wear a mask while others desire more freedom from this routine. Strike a balance, use good judgment, obey any establishment requirements and get your shot!

The happiest place in medicine is anywhere there is a vaccine, and the happiest people are the ones giving vaccine shots.

DON’T FORGET to spring forward Saturday night, setting your clock forward an hour. Daylight saving time begins at 2 am.

How did daylight saving time start? Blame Ben Franklin’s “An Economical Project” written in 1784. It was whimsical, advocating laws to compel us to rise only at dawn to save the expense of candles.

THANKS TO Tianda Hutton: SC’s 12 seasons are winter, fool’s spring, 2nd winter, spring of deception, 3rd winter, pollening, actual spring, summer, Hell’s front porch, false fall, 2nd summer and actual fall.

MISSION Lexington’s March honorees: • Church of the Month is Beulah United Methodist for financial contributions and food pantry donations. Pastor Tony Rowell is the brother of Mission Lexington’s 2019 Board Chair Jane Mayer.
