West Columbia is unveiling a new music festival this fall.
The inaugural city-organized Meeting Street Music Fest is set to take over its namesake street Sept. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m., featuring three bands, including a to-be-announced national headliner.

The event will be free to attend.
Anna Huffman, the city’s director of public relations, told the Chronicle that organizers are in the process of finalizing details before announcing the full lineup.
The festival’s website, which notes that a full web presence is also coming soon, bills the event as an opportunity to “immerse yourself in the music, indulge in a wide array of delectable food, refreshing beverages, and endless fun” and promises “an abundance of culinary delights, thirst-quenching drinks, and exciting activities.”
As to who is putting the event together, Huffman said, “A planning committee is involved that includes local community members, business owners, and residents.”
The imprint of the event is set to run along the 600 and 700 blocks of Meeting Street, a stretch that has greatly increased its nightlife options in recent years, with spots such as WECO Bottle and Biergarten, the jazz club Chayz Lounge and pride bar The Spot on Meeting St. joining the venerable Bill's Music Shop & Pickin' Parlor.
Bringing a fall music festival to the area could build on other successes.
West Columbia has generated big crowds along Meeting Street with its springtime Kinetic Derby Day, which started in 2018 and is set to return for another year on April 20, 2024. The approach for Meeting Street Music Fest is similar to Soiree on State, the popular street party that neighboring city Cayce puts on each spring, though that event is typically headlined by perennial Columbia band Tokyo Joe and not a national act.
