West Columbia honors volunteers

Ms. Bernice Smith Wells was recognized by West Columbia Mayor Pro-Tem Tem Miles and West Columbia City Council in celebration of her 70th birthday. Wells is an active member of the community, and she has contributed in many ways.

West Columbia Mayor pro tempore Tem Miles and the City Council recognized Connie Vaughn for her work to beautify West Columbia by picking up litter along the highways.

Deputy City Administrator Michelle Dickerson introduced the city’s new Certified Building Official, Eric Williams, during the April council meeting.

The Rhythm on the River Concert Series, presented by the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce, kicked off April 6. The concerts are from 6 until 9 pm at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater.

West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton said, “We’re pleased to support the Chamber’s weekly Rhythm on the River Series, which provides free family-oriented entertainment to our residents and visitors.”

“Rhythm on the River is the best part of Spring in the Midlands,” said Mayor pro tempore Tem Miles. “It has great music, scenery, and people. Please come out to West Columbia and join in the fun.”

There are five more concerts. The April 27 concert is on a Saturday instead of Friday to coincide with Kinetic Derby Day.

Did you get stuck in traffic last Monday? A collision on US-378 at Mineral Springs Road had traffic lanes closed April 1and caused congestion.
