Cedrick Exzavius Reese, 45, of West Columbia, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for possession of crack cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, and for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
Reese was stopped by a deputy with the Richland County Sheriff's Department after he was observed speeding and running a red light. After failing to provide his driver’s license, Reese consented to a search.
During the search, a deputy found a clear plastic bag containing methamphetamine in Reese’s waistband. Reese told authorities the drugs were for personal use. Additional drugs, including crack cocaine and fentanyl, were recovered from the vehicle, along with a firearm and ammunition.
Reese had prior drug convictions that prohibited him from legally possessing a firearm.
United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis sentenced Reese to 36 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release on each count, to run concurrently. Reese was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
