West Columbia Riverwalk reopens after Hurricane Helene damages repaired

Posted

After a nine-month closure, the City of West Columbia announced most of the West Columbia Riverwalk Park (109 Alexander Rd.) has reopened. After closures due to flooding and extensive damage from Hurricane Helene, the park is now open from the Amphitheater to the Cayce connection.

While the majority of the devastation following Helene has been repaired, there is still work to be done to fully restore the Riverwalk.

The Amphitheater parking lot will remain closed as construction crews continue to work on remaining repairs from the Gervais Street bridge to the Moffatt Street entrance, according to a release from the city. The Riverwalk entrance at Moffatt Street will also remain closed until the repairs are complete. Crews estimate that it will take about a month to complete the remaining renovations.

“We are thrilled to have our beautiful natural resource back open for the community to enjoy," City of West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles said in the release. "I want to personally thank everyone for their patience during the repair process. The Riverwalk is a treasured part of our city, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back as we continue restoring the remaining sections."
