West Columbia Post 79 opened play at the Palmetto Invitational with two convincing wins Friday at South Florence High School.
In Game One, Post 79 routed Buckhannon (West Va.) 15-1 in five innings. Gray Collegiate’s Mason Turner went 2-2 with three RBI, Blake Palyok of Airport also went 2-2 with RBI and Kennedy Ramsey had a solo home run.
Levi Dunn and Tristan Pressley combined for five strikeouts in five innings.
Game Two saw West Columbia defeat Hope Mills Legion 8-1. Mason and Lane Turner both went 2-3 with two RBI, Ramsey went 2-4 with an RBI and John Paul Forrester hit a home run.
Josh Raines struck out four and allowed just four hits for the complete game win.
West Columbia (7-1, 0-1) next plays Hamlet (N.C.) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Chapin/Newberry begins play in the Invitational also on Saturday against Sumter Post 15 at 11 a.m. and Lancaster Post at 1:30 p.m.
