Health officials are cautioning Lexington County residents about smoke fronm western wildfires.

SC Department of Health and Environmental Control officials advise you to be aware of possible health effects from wildfires burning across the western US and Canada.

Smoke from these fires can irritate your eyes and respiratory system as well as aggravate or exacerbate chronic heart and lung diseases.

Depending on wind conditions, it is expected that the most significant health and visibility impact will be roughly north of a line from Myrtle Beach to Lexington, Gilbert and Batesburg-Leesville until Friday.

DHEC advises that if you have such health problems that you:

• Limit time outdoors.

• Keep windows and doors closed.

• Run your air conditione with the fresh-air intake closed.
