Where are the adults in Washington?

Do you wonder what our public officials were thinking about covid-19 – or if they were thinking at all.

First they tell us to stay home if we are not essential at work – or close our businesses if they consider what we offer our customers not essential either.

Then they are surprised that many of us who live paycheck to paycheck can’t pay the rent, buy food, medicine or other things we need money for.

They give us and our great grandchildren a $2.2 trillion debt, millions of which go to such non-essentials as Nancy Pe-losi’s pet National Endowment for the Arts and the Kennedy Performing Arts Center.

They send billions of dollars to big banks supposedly for small businesses and the banks loan millions of dollars to big businesses and within days there is no money left for those it was intended to go to.

They also send billions more in unemployment benefits to furloughed restaurant cooks and wait staffs and others who lost their jobs when their employers were forced to shut down. With almost brainless gener

With almost brainless generosity, they promise $600 a week per individual in federal relief and up to more than $300 a week in state jobless benefits.

Then they are surprised again when people making $300 to $500 a week before covid-19 don’t want to give up $900 a week in unemployment benefits and go back to work.

Now they take the next step and tell those who refuse to return to work without good cause that they could lose their unemployment benefits.

Of course, these officials want their employers to be the bad guys and report workers who don’t come back to work.

It makes you wonder if these so-called public officials should be required to have adults present when they waste our tax money like water.

This is perfect fodder for humorists and standup comics. They ought to be ashamed that they fail to foresee the consequences of their actions. Do you agree or disagree?
