A Lexington County high school received a bomb threat the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 16, its second since classes resumed for the year on Aug. 9.
Per communication shared with families, a threat directed at White Knoll High School was received by law enforcement this morning. The threat follows another received Aug. 15, which was never thought to be credible.
Law enforcement, school and district administrators once again conducted a sweep of the building and campus while the school implemented the “Hold” safety response.
“The ‘Hold’ response is part of the ‘Standard Response Protocol’ used by school districts nationwide,” Principal Nicholas Pearson writes in an email to families. “During a “Hold”, school administrators clear the hallways and students and employees remain in the classrooms and teaching and learning continued.”
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, which has jurisdiction over the school and employs two resource officers there, didn’t immediately respond to the Chronicle’s request for comment about the Aug. 16 threat..
Capt. Adam Myrick, public information officer for the department, told the Chronicle Aug. 15 that the department continues to work with school district administrators to ensure that a safe environment is maintained as a threat is investigated.
“Please know that we are committed to investigating all threats thoroughly and dealing aggressively with those responsible to the fullest extent of the law, regulations and policy.” Pearson writes “Again, we want to reiterate that school is continuing as normal while taking the necessary safety precautions, despite these threats that have little credibility.”
This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
