SafeWise home security research firm placed:

• The Isle of Palms at #1 with a population of 4,439, median income of $102,656, violent crime of zero per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate per 1,000 of 15.54.

If it’s any consolation, you are safer than your property in the Isle of Palms. With a median income of $102,656, few criminals can afford to live there.

• Next safest are Tega Cay, Clemson, Ridgeland, Edge-field, Central. Travelers Rest, Walhalla, Mount Pleasant, Bluffton, Surfside Beach, North Augusta, Mauldin, Fort Mill, Charleston, Summerville and Hanahan. These low crime areas are clustered in the upstate and the low country.

• Lexington is the only Midlands community in the top 20 safest at #18.

• Rounding out the top 20 are upstate towns Simpson-ville and Fountain Inn just south of Greenville.
