Why can’t we get our mail on time?

We are publishing this unsigned letter as a number of other Chronicle subscribers have reported similar problems with the Lexington Post Office. We have tried to commuicate with the postmaster but he seems never to be “available.”

It is now 6:15 pm and my mail has just been delivered. I think you should investigate the problems at the Lexington Post Office. You might want to ask the postmaster:

• Why is the mail delivered every day after 5 pm and usually much later?

• Why do postal employees drive their own cars? We have had nothing but problems since the mail trucks stopped delivery.

• Why does a post office mail truck deliver on Sundays but we cannot get our mail delivered at a reasonable hour daily?

• Why can’t we get our personal mail from a 29201 zip code mailed on Friday until the next Wednesday or Thursday?

• What qualifications, if any, must new postal employees have? Reading house numbers and directions would be a plus.

• What happened to hiring veterans? Years ago, the post office would not hire anyone who was not a veteran. These people today are not veterans.

• Why does the Cayce/West Columbia Post Office still have mail trucks? No one seems to have any problems getting their mail in the 29170 zip codes.

I have been to the post office on South Lake Drive and the one in Lexington. They have no explanations, are very defensive and take no responsibility for any problem.

Now I take my mail to the West Columbia post office. I wish to remain anonymous because, if not, I might never receive any of my mail ever again.
