Woman’s Club to sponsor market

The Pelion Woman’s Club will sponsor a Farmers & Craft Market June 23, 8 am-1 pm. If you are interested in obtaining a table for this event, contact pelionSCwomansclub@gmail.com. The market will be on the walking trail by the playground.

Four Pelion Middle School students, Caroline Lang, McKenzie Sightler, Chloe Smoak, and Savannah Poole, will provide two Little Free Library boxes to tackle the issue of early literacy in the community.

Little Free Libraries provide people with 24/7 access to free reading materials. The students used their Genius Hour activities to raise money and build the boxes in the school workshop. PMS encourages students to use their Genius Hour time to brainstorm and complete community service projects.

Mayor Frank Shumpert gave permission for the students to install their first Little Free Library at the IGA in Pelion.

The Lisa Rucker Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Alexis Bass and Savannah Poole. The Walter P. Rawl scholarship was awarded to Savannah Poole. Aaron Spears was awarded the Elsie Rast Stuart scholarship.

Forts Pond Elementary will participate in the Summer Food Service Program, a free program for children 18 and younger. The program runs Monday through Thursday, June 11–July 26. Children must eat their meals on site. Breakfast is from 7:30 a.m. until 10 am.; lunch from 10 a.m. until 12:30 pm. Meals are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pelion Branch Library hosts preschool storytime on June 13 at 11 a.m. for ages 2-5 years. The Summer Reading Kickoff is June 7, 5-7 pm. Activities include crafts, games, photo booth, and snacks for all ages. Yarn Art is June 9 at 10 a.m. for ages 13 and up. TeenScene features Authors of Mystery and Horror 2.0 June 14 at 6 pm. Explore the lives of authors such as Robert Louis Stevenson, W. W. Jacobs, Edgar Allan Poe, and more. This event is for grades 6-12.
