Remember the Fallen, Honor those who Serve and Teach our children the value of Freedom.

The 17th annual Fort Jackson National Cemetery Wreaths Across America Ceremony was held on Saturday, Dec. 13. Thousands of volunteers and family members of Veterans buried at Fort Jackson Cemetery were present for this event. Attendees parked at the Blue Cross Insurance campus across the street from the cemetery.

Shuttle buses took volunteers from the campus throughout the day to the cemetery. After volunteers and family members arrived, there were shuttle buses there to take them to the sections they volunteered for, or to where their family members were buried.

ROTC Cadets, Scouts, church groups, non-profit organizations and other volunteers were there to give out wreaths or to place them on the graves.

I was asked and privileged to place a wreath on the grave of my husband, Anthony Wayne Augustine, who passed away in early November. Thank you, WP Rawl, for your support through the years to transport the Memorial Wreaths, the Legion Rider Escort team and all of the volunteers.

There are over 15,000 Veterans buried at the Fort Jackson Cemetery, and each one received a wreath with a red bow on it.

A noon ceremony program was held in honor of the Veterans buried at Fort Jackson prior to placing the wreaths on their graves.
