You are capable

Perhaps you saw the recent video of the man who rescued his puppy from the jaws of an alligator.

He was walking his dog along a pond in Florida when suddenly the 4-foot reptile snatched his dog and took it under the water.

The man reacted instantly by jumping into the pond.

He grabbed the gator and wrestled it to the shore with his puppy hanging from its mouth.

He pried its jaws open freeing the dog.

The man is 74-year-old Richard Wilbanks, and he is a senior adult hero!

If this man had been asked the day before if he thought he could ever wrestle an alligator to save a dog he probably would have said, “No way!”

But reality has a way of changing our preconceived notions.

There have been many adrenaline-powered acts of superhuman strength on record.

In 1982, 58-year-old Angela Cavallo of Lawrenceville, Georgia lifted a car off of her son for 5 minutes until the jack was able to be put back in place.

2003, Aron Ralston amputated his own arm after being pinned by an 800-lb boulder in a remote canyon of Utah.

He then rappelled down a cliff and walked six miles to find help.

An intense study from the Journal of Applied Psychology in 1961 came up with the bottom line: “You’re always capable of great feats; it just takes a crisis for you to actually perform them.”

So, never underestimate your ability to do the unthinkable!

This same axiom does not only apply to acts of superhuman strength or bravery.

As a senior adult, you may find yourself in a situation that you never dreamed you could handle.

Perhaps you have lost a spouse that you couldn’t imagine living without.

Maybe you are faced with a health crisis not knowing if you can endure.

You are capable of a lot more than you think!

Let Philippians 4:13 be your motto: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
