Stop drinking and driving — and riding. One of the deadliest and most often committed crimes is impaired driving. We’re cracking down on this in an effort to reduce the amount of dangerous drivers on our roads. Impaired driving and riding motorcycles is dangerous and it kills.

This Labor Day weekend, many law enforcement agencies across the country are participating in ‘Ride Sober or Get Pulled Over’ — an impaired riding awareness campaign. In support of the law enforcement community’s dedication to protecting the lives of residents in their communities, you’ll see officers working together during this holiday weekend to enforce safe, unimpaired motorcycle riding, and take drunk motorcyclists off our roads.

Planning is essential to a safe night out: If your night involves alcohol, leave your motorcycle at home and plan for a sober ride. In 2019, motorcycle riders involved in fatal crashes had higher percentages of alcohol impairment than any other type of motor vehicle driver (29% for motorcycle riders, 20% for passenger car drivers, 19% for lighttruck drivers, and 2% for drivers of large trucks).

This is why we’re working with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to remind motorcyclists that drunk riding is not only illegal, it is a matter of life and death.
