SC owners of 193,000 vehicles have dangerous, unrepaired, recalled airbags.
These can rupture in a hot, humid climate like ours.
Due to that, Gov. Henry Mc-Master has declared September as Airbag Recall Repair Month.
Of those 193,000 vehicles, 51,000 have 2 faulty airbags.
When exposed over time to heat and humidity, they can go from life-saving devices to life threats.
In a crash, they could rupture, spraying shrapnel into the vehicle.
The National Safety Council and local Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram dealers have launched an Airbag Recall Repair Month campaign.
This safety recall impacts more than 11% of all passenger vehicles statewide.
Drivers should:
• Locate your vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN). Check the driver’s side dashboard or registration and insurance documents.
• Enter your VIN into www.CheckToProtect.org to find out if you have an open safety recall.
• Schedule a free repair appointment at a local Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram or Toyota dealership.
Repairs take about an hour to complete. Many dealers have extended hours and can provide transportation during repairs.
Local dealers can be found at www.bit.ly/CTPmap .
