Dominion Energy rate-payers need to know what a rate increase may cost.

A state agency, the Office of Regulatory Staff, has a new website page showing how the request could affec your power bill.

It also includes important dates to remember and information on how to participate.

Dominion Energy aims to recover part of the $5 billion SC Electric & Gas wasted on 2 failed nuclear reactors.

The Virginia utility applied Aug. 14 to the SC Public Service Commission for a 7.75% rate hike.

That’s more than half the 15% rate cut Dominion agreed to in buying SCE&G. If approved, the average residential ratepayer’s monthly bill will rise $9.68 a month.

That’s $116.16 a year more to keep the lights on in your home.

The PSC is scheduled to consider the request in January.

The company wants $178 million more for increased operating and nuclear fiasco costs.

The average monthly bill of a residential consumer using 1,000 kilowatt hours a month is $122.31.

It would increase to $131.99 if rates are approved.

Dominion provides service to more than 753,000 electric ratepayers in Lexington and 23 other SC counties.
