Get ready, Mom and Dad. The state’s annual Sales Tax Holiday is coming Friday, August 2 through Sunday August 4. It’s designed to help with the cost of back to school supplies and other items. School essentials are exempt from the state’s 6% sales tax plus local taxes. Tax-free items range from clothing, accessories, and shoes to school supplies, backpacks, and computers. Shoppers will also find tax-free items for their home or dorm room. In past years, shoppers have saved up to $3 million during the weekend. There are 19 Sales & Use Taxes although not all of them apply to retail sales. Some are local taxes that pay for things like transportation, schools or to reduce residential property taxes.
