The first half of the Coastal Plain League ended with the Asheboro Zookeepers looking up at the rest of the West Division.

After handing the Lexington County Blowfish a 11-6 loss Thursday at home, it's the Zookeepers who are now looking down upon everyone else. Their fourth victory to start the second half surpassed its three-win total of  the first half.

Meanwhile, the Blowfish (10-16, 0-2) dropped their eighth straight game and 12th in the last 13 games. It matched the longest losing streak first set in 2017 since moving to Lexington in 2014.

Asheboro (7-20, 4-0) took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. All the runs scored came off three doubles off starter Joseph Lafiora by Drew Tyndal, Kennedy Jones and Trent Youngblood who finished 4-4 with 4 RBI.

Each time Lexington got a run back over the next three innings, Asheboro nearly doubled the total with six runs off Josh Topper and Brody Hopkins to extend their lead to 10-4. Tristan Bissetta did have his first home run for the Blowfish.

Down 11-4 in the ninth, Lexington County got two RBI singles from Wells Sykes of Lexington and Crosby Jones of Dutch Fork.

The Blowfish will look to avoid its longest losing streak since moving to Lexington Friday at home against Forest City. Lexington County is 3-0 this season against the Owls.

Friday also marks the first of three straight Fireworks and Light Shows planned as part of the Fourth of July weekend.

Lexington County did earn a victory in its home exhibition game. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Joshua Hernandez's bases loaded walkoff hit gave Lexington the 3-2 win.
