The 3rd time back in the SC High School League Class 3A wrestling final was not the charm for Gilbert High School Saturday at Dreher High School. The Indians once again returned home with the state runner-up trophy after losing to an Upper State opponent. This time, it was Belton-Honea Path which denied the Indians with the 53-21 victory in the state final. In claiming the school’s 5th state title, the Bears erased a 12-6 deficit with 7 consecutive pinfall wins. Gilbert got 2 pinfall wins by Grayson Keisler (195 lbs.) and Brendon Boatwright (145 lbs.) and decision wins by Kyle Decker (220 lbs.), Grayson Leaphart (285 lbs.) and Jackson Coulder (152 lbs.) to post their highest point total in 3 state title appearances. The Indians will now compete in the state individual trials starting Saturday.
