Back to school giveaway

Brookland United Methodist Church is hosting a Back-2-School Giveaway on Aug. 22, 2 to 6 pm.

Donations of new book bags, notebook paper, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, composition notebooks, tissues and other school supplies are needed. Cash donations will be accepted to buy supplies. All donations are needed by August 21.

Donation drop-off locations:

• Brookland UMC, 541 Meeting St., West Columbia. Call 803-791-1450.

• West Columbia Police, 200 North 12th St. Call 803-794-0721 Ext. 827. The police will pick up contactless donations.

• West Columbia Fire Department: 610 North 12th St. Call 803-791-4440.

The gGiveaway will be in the parking lot of the church. Supplies will be handed out in a drive-thru to promote social distancing.

Kona Ice will provide free shaved ice to each family. The 1st 500 students will receive a book-bag and school supplies. The child must be present.

HERE IS A great opportunity for Airport and Brookland-Cayce High student leaders: Cayce Mayor Elise Partin is recruiting a Youth Engagement Team to work with the US Conference of Mayors. The 1st initiative is National Voter Registration Day.

If you’re interested in gaining experience, and serving with Mayor Partin, please contact Mendy Corder at MCorder@cityofcayce-sc.gov by 5 pm Monday. Send your name, grade, school and note leadership positions held in your school.

TO KEEP VISITORS safe during timber harvesting, the Timmerman Trail’s North loop section from Battlefield Connection to Old State Road will be closed until Monday, Aug. 17. You can enjoy the rest of the beautiful Riverwalk during this time.
