As a child I would sit in the safety of the back porch on the swing and watch with wonder the wind and rain, and listen to the thunder and lightning. The power of a storm just amazed me.

A free Skywarn Storm spotter class will be held at the Chapin American Legion Post August 14 at 7 p.m. Send questions to WD4NG@arrl.net

The Chapin Volunteer Emergency Team also meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 pm at 102 Lexington Avenue; all interested parties are welcome to attend these meetings.

Lake Murray is an integral part of the lives of many people in three counties of Richland, Lexington, and Newberry. The Lake Murray Association has its meetings in different sites so everyone can attend these important meetings. The next Lake Murray Association public meeting will be August 21 at Macedonia Lutheran Church, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Boater safety, winter water levels and growing concern of an overgrowth of the Southern Naiad are on the agenda. Everyone interested in the health of the lake is encouraged to attend. For information, visit www.lakemurrayassociation.com .

Congratulations to the State Title Champions, the Chapin and Newberry American Legion Baseball teams. Will Kroske, Ward Hacklin, Robert King, and Jeb Fulmer are just some of the local baseball players on the team, which has won the title for the third time in the past six months.

Welcome back to school all public, private, and homeschool teachers and students! All-District 5 teachers start on August 15, and students begin on Thursday, August

23. We all pray for a good and safe school year for all teachers and students!
