The high school basketball regular season is in its final week and many of Lexington’s top athletes are stepping up to help their team win crucial region contests.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.
Brookland Cayce's Isaiah Oree helped the Bearcats add two region wins and enter the final week of the regular season in second place.
Oree scored 10 points in the team’s win over Aiken early last week. A few days later he doubled that total, scoring a team-high 20 points against Gilbert.
The Bearcats started the week a game behind North Augusta in the race for the region championship. The two played early this week after the chronicle’s press deadline.
With playoffs beginning soon, the Bearcats will look for Oree to continue producing efficiently.
Lexington’s Jaleya Lytes kept Lexington’s region championship dreams alive by leading the Wildcats in a win against Chapin.
Lytes finished with a team-high 15 points and made plays on the defensive end, recording three steals. Lytes has had a few big games for the Wildcats this season and one of their most consistent.
She averages a career-high nine points per game and averages the second-most steals on the team with just over two per game.
Lexington began this week tied for second in the 5A Region 4 standings. The team played White Knoll early this week after the Chronicle’s press deadline. Lexington ends its regular season this Thursday against White Knoll.
