Gray Collegiate duo named Athlete of the Week as fall sports season continues

Posted

Another week of fall sports has passed, and teams are starting to get into a groove after playing multiple competitions.

These early-season games are a good test to see where teams stand ahead of the region season. Teams use this time to fiddle with concepts and rotations as the top players establish themselves.

This week’s Athlete of the Week winners both come from Gray Collegiate and are making an early statement this year.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Trevon Williamson

War Eagle running back Trevon Williamson helped the team bounce back from a week one loss with a 27-0 win over River Bluff.

The senior was a force on the ground, running for 227 yards and two touchdowns. He took 28 of Gray’s 35 rushing attempts.

This performance followed a solid week one outing in which he ran for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

Williamson was Gray’s leading offensive player in 2025, finishing the season with over 1,800 all-purpose yards and 25 touchdowns. For Gray to have another successful campaign, the team will rely on Williamson to keep putting up big numbers.

Peyton Capps

Gray Collegiate’s Peyton Capps may be new to the team, but she is no stranger to competing at a high level.

The River Bluff transfer helped the Gators make it to the state final last season, and she is a big reason why the War Eagles are off to a fast start this season.

In last week’s win against Aiken, she finished with a team-high 15 kills and nine digs. It was Capps second 10-plus kill game of the season.
