Chapin, River Bluff competitors named Athlete of the Week as high school sports season starts

Posted

The high school sports season is in high gear, which means it’s time to once again spotlight Lexington County’s male and female athletes of the week.

These athletes helped their teams start the season strong, making big plays in big wins. This week saw record-breaking performances and high-scoring action from the winners as they provided a spark for their teams.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchonicle.com

Brady Albro

Chapin football quarterback Brady Albro had a career-defining performance for the Eagles in their win against the A.C. Flora Falcons last week.

Albro became the program’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns with a 300-yard, three-touchdown performance. Albro surpassed Logan Bailey’s 46 touchdown passes and Roger Pedroni’s 5,466 passing yards to take the program records.

Albro has been exceptional for the Eagles to start the season. Chapin is 2-0, and Albro’s play is a large reason why. He elevates everyone around him, which has resulted in one of the highest-scoring offenses in the state early.

Caroline Tucker

River Bluff volleyball’s Caroline Tucker was voted female athlete of the week after some big-time performances for the Gators in the first week of the season.

The Gators picked up a whopping nine wins last week after participating in a weekend tournament. Tucker has been a beat for the team in the attack game early, leading in kills earned and kill percentage for any player that’s played more than three sets.

Tucker had at least five kills in six of the team’s wins last week. She had an 11-kill match against Hilton Head Island and had a perfect kill and hitting percentage in a match against Westwood.
